Stoney Creek Awarded GOHL Franchise, Generals Name Unveiled

STONEY CREEK, ON The Greater Ontario Hockey League (GOHL) has officially announced the addition of a new franchise in Stoney Creek, marking a significant step in the league’s continued expansion and development efforts. The new team, set to compete as the Stoney Creek Generals, will join the league’s Eastern Conference ahead of the upcoming season. As part of the transition, the Caledon franchise will no longer operate within the GOHL, allowing for improved geographic alignment and enhanced competitive balance across the league. League officials emphasized that the move reflects a broader commitment to strengthening the GOHL’s structure while maintaining a high standard of player development. “We are very excited to welcome Stoney Creek as a new franchise location within our league,” said Commissioner Craig Spada. “This move strengthens our Eastern Conference and aligns very well geographically with the other teams in the conference. The interest and enthusiasm surrounding this opportunity has been extremely positive.” The Generals organization is already looking to establish strong ties within the local community. As part of its launch, the team will host a public logo design contest, inviting residents, students, and fans to contribute ideas for the club’s official branding. Details of the contest are expected to be released in the coming weeks. Team owner Errol McDonald expressed optimism about the franchise’s future in Stoney Creek. “This is an exciting opportunity for us to bring our organization into a community with a strong passion for hockey,” McDonald said. “The GOHL has truly established itself as a key development league, and we’re proud to be part of a system focused on helping young players grow and advance. We’re looking forward to building something special here.” The addition of the Generals further strengthens the GOHL’s role as a premier development league and a recognized pathway for players aiming to reach higher levels of competition, including opportunities connected to major junior hockey. With a continued emphasis on player development and community-driven franchises, the GOHL remains focused on delivering a competitive and professional environment across Ontario. Additional details regarding the Stoney Creek Generals, including organizational updates and preparations for the upcoming season, are expected to be announced in the near future.STONEY CREEK, ON — The Greater Ontario Hockey League (GOHL) has officially announced the addition of a new franchise in Stoney Creek, marking a significant step in the league’s continued expansion and development efforts.
