GOHL Suspends Komoka Assistant Captain After Alleged Skate Incident vs. Stars
By PuckPulseTV | Komoka, ON
An intense Greater Ontario Hockey League (GOHL) clash between the Komoka Kings and the St. Thomas Stars on Saturday night has sparked controversy — and an official investigation — after an incident involving a Kings player allegedly stepping on a downed opponent.
With just over a minute remaining in the third period, Komoka assistant captain Jagan Chanderdat was assessed a Match – Attempt to Injure penalty for allegedly stepping on Stars forward Dylan Searles, who was on the ice during a stoppage in play.
The infraction triggered an automatic indefinite suspension, pending a disciplinary hearing with GOHL officials later this week.
“We’re aware of the incident and have initiated a formal review,” said a GOHL spokesperson on Sunday. “Player safety remains a top priority for the league.”
Chanderdat — who is also the son of Kings owner and general manager Roop Chanderdat — has not commented publicly. The Komoka Kings organization has not issued a statement as of Tuesday.
Following the game, St. Thomas assistant captain Cooper Ilczyszyn confirmed to PuckPulseTV that Dylan Searles was not seriously injured in the incident.
“He’s okay,” Ilczyszyn said.
Despite the tension, the Stars finished strong, closing out a 4–1 road victory in Komoka.
Serious Allegations, Serious Consequences
Match penalties for skate-related incidents are among the most serious under Hockey Canada rules. While intent remains under review, the visuals alone have stirred reactions across the GOHL community.
“Whether or not it was intentional, that kind of contact with a skate is dangerous and can’t be ignored,” one GOHL-affiliated scout told PuckPulseTV. “The league needs to set the tone here.”
fans and players reacted strongly when the penalty was announced.
What Comes Next
Under GOHL disciplinary procedures, a match penalty initiates a formal review. Outcomes can range from multi-game suspensions to season-ending bans, depending on the circumstances and findings.
As of publication, Chanderdat remains suspended indefinitely and is ineligible to return until the league issues its ruling.
